The Flor de Vetus is a 14% Alc. Red wine elaborated by Bodegas Vetus winery in the North-West Spain area of Villanueba del Puente (Zamora) in the D.O. Toro appellation. The Flor de Vetus is a 100% Tinta de Toro grapes (Tempranillo) red wine, grown on the 20 Ha. Owned by the winery, placed around the winery, around 700 m. over Sea level, on clay and sandy soils, under a continental but, with Atlantic influences climate and around 30 years old vines. Grapes are hand wine harvested and carried to the winery in small boxes, where bunches are selected, stemmed, squeezed and moved to stainless steel tanks where, they are macerated and fermented at monitored temperature. Later, wine is pressed and moved to new stainless steel tanks, where it performs the malolactic fermentation. When this step is finish, wine is moved to 50% French and 50% American oak casks (50% new and 50% one time used), where it remains during 9 months before being filtered and bottled with no stabilisation and no clarified.
VIEW: The Flor de Vetus has a deep red cherry colour, with dark red rims, an intense and brighting colour.
NOSE: In the Flor de Vetus stand out red and black fruit scents, blended with soft spiced, toasted and high roasted scents.
TASTE: The Flor de Vetus has a fresh attack, with a good acidity, that gives way to a round and medium volume red wine, with a tannin that is shown, but polished, with a long end and a retro nasal where riper fruit scents are newly shown blended with spices and toasted scents.
The Flor de Vetus, although is a young red wine, has all typical Toro red wines strength, , it is a flavorous and scented red wine, with a good volume, a red wine perfect to be paired with any meat, oily fishes, cured butchery (ham, cecina), old cheeses, etc. It is suggested to be served from 14 to 16ºC
