El Pícaro is a 14,5% Alc. Elaborated in the Spanish TORO Area (Valladolid) by Bodegas Matsu(To wait in Japanese) winery from 100% Tinta de Toro grape (Tempranillo in the Toro Area) that comes from really old vineyards, 80 to 100 years old vines those are grown following the biodynamic farming techniques and keeping the natural plant’s cycles. Vineyards are on really poor soils and harvest is hand made in small boxes. After harvest during the first week of October, the grape is macerated and fermented in 15.000 Kg concrete tanks and under controlled temperature around 24ºC. After this period, wine is transferred to French Oak barrels where it will kept around 3 months to perform the malolactic fermentation. After this period, wine is bottled without filtering or clarifying, trying this way to keep all its features.
VIEW: El Pícaro from Matsu winery shows a really intense red cherry colour, with purple rims and with a slow drop and small tear able to dye the glass, a sign of its youth and strength.
NOSE: In the nose, we find, mainly, fruity scents, with black and red fruits, blackberries, blueberries and strawberries, with a light spicy bit and a mineral remind, as well as a pleasant balsamic sensation.
TASTE: The el Pícaro has a tasty beginning, with a good acidity, a light path through the mouth, with a present tannins those empower its flavour and with a retro-nose full of black fruit cambined with a creamy and toasty sensation typical from its stage in oak barrels. Fresh and pleasant end.
The El Pícaro from Matsu winery is a young red wine, powerful, tasty, fresh, a scents and flavours outburst that deserves to be enjoyed paired with flavours at the same stage. It will really well pair with meat pastas and rice, every grilled meat, cold meats, middle aged cheeses, etc… It’s recommended to serve between 14-16ºC and it could leave some residues at the glass bottoms, as it has not been filtered, but it is not necessary to decant or pour in any case.
